Under Pressure

SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

CO-OPt Research + Projects invites submissions for Under Pressure, an experimental juried exhibition that aims to create dialogue between artists and art works about the myriad pressures of the contemporary moment: the pressures we exert as well as the pressures placed upon us. The exhibition will run from February - July 2021. This exhibition will be structured differently than most in that it will be changing and evolving throughout the 6 month run. As new submissions are received, art works will be added, moved, or removed from the gallery. This means that some works may stay in the space for longer than others. Each new work added to the exhibition will act as a reflection of one set of circumstances and the initiation of another.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the exhibition will be designed for viewing from outside the gallery. The gallery has over 208 square feet of window space at the front of the building, and the entire space is visible from the sidewalk outside. With this in mind we ask that all artists be prepared to be flexible with the installation and modality of their work.

Artists working in sound, performance, installation, video, 2D, 3D, relational media, score-based artworks, and any other medium are encouraged to apply.

All included works will be featured on our website and social media, which will be updated continually as the gallery changes over time. At the culmination of the exhibition, a catalogue will be published.

Submission Guidelines:

There is no fee to submit! Submissions will remain open and active throughout the 6 month run of the exhibition. You may submit your piece, project, or proposal, at any time between now and July 1, 2021. The review process will begin on February 7, and submissions will be reviewed on a biweekly basis until July 1, 2021. We will confirm your submission and of your potential participation in Under Pressure within two weeks of your submission.

All artwork will be installed and de-installed by COOPt members unless the artist is available to handle their own work.

Important: we are a DIY artist-run gallery, we therefore do not have funds for shipping and we do not have insurance. Please keep this in mind when you are considering which works to submit.

To Submit, please send a single PDF document to co.opt.lbk@gmail.com that includes the following information:

-Name

-Brief artist statement and/or project statement

-No more than 5 Images of submitted works / project(s)

-detailed description of installation specifics if not apparent

Note:

-For photographic works that can be reproduced digitally, we may be able to print your work onsite. This will be determined on a case by case basis. In your submission let us know of specifics (size of work, paper finish: glossy, matte, etc,) regarding the reproduction of your work.

-For video and sound works, in your PDF send an attached vimeo, youtube, soundcloud, or personal website link. We have a small broadcast radio station, 89.9 KOOPT that will allow sound pieces to be experienced outside of the gallery via FM radio. We also have a medium sized flat screen TV for video works and a projector which will be used for one-time event screenings.

-For performance based and score / instruction based works, please include a detailed description and/or any documentation of previous manifestations of these works. The more we have the better. If you would like to do a live performance in the space, please let us know and give us a preferred date and time. For score based or instruction based works, some of our COOPt members can be used to initiate / perform the works. Let us know if you need performers.
